Teacher · not a kid screen

DJ Berty

Each music job has its own tab, and your song stays in the player at the bottom. Perform has Exit. Conducting uses fixed gestures only.

Every word is easy to read, menus close after you pick, and Perform fits your screen.

Lists are easy to read, tips stay off the buttons, and a sideways phone uses the whole screen.

Menu opens from the left on every screen.

Tool rows are easy to tap. Menu has What's new and Settings. Arabic menu stays on the left.

DJ Berty follows the Hub language. Beats still play left to right. Song names stay English.

DJ Berty fits on one screen: all 16 steps show, More stays closed until you tap it, one Menu, readable Lights. No typed names. Saves stay on the same keys. Save or Share still sends one musiclab score.

One page, four boards. Song, Beats, Lights, and Band share the same song. The left side switches the board. Play, the eight beats, and Saved stay up. Lights alone, Beats alone, and Score alone still open if a student should use just one.

If you are helping

  1. Sit beside the student. Do not take the Chromebook.
  2. Point at one pad. Let them tap it. The number lights. The word says Saved.
  3. Stop talking. One pad is the whole first song.
  4. Sound can stay off. The number and the word Saved are the proof.
  5. If they tap Clear, it asks a second time. Bring it back puts the drums back.
  6. If the page says Not saved, open the menu and tap Save a file. Hand them the file or leave it in Downloads.
  7. Refresh brings the song back. If the newest copy is damaged, the page opens the copy before that.
  8. Do not open the mic unless they ask.

The first screen asks what to do. Make a song sets a feel, a speed, and an instrument, then opens the staff. The library lists class songs and songs saved on this Chromebook. Each one has picture choices. Class or private uses the alias, never a real name. The menu is a button, not a bar stuck on the left.

Open Sound. One note shows its wave. Smooth, Bright, Buzz, and Hollow are the same pitch with a different shape. Major and Minor stack a chord. One by one plays it as an arpeggio. The numbers 2 through 5 add overtones. A shorter string is a higher note. The microphone stays off. Score, beats, fingerings, and practice assignments are still here. Chrome Music Lab does not have those.

Students do not type a name. Sign in is the code and PIN from TechWorks. The name shows after it matches. Signed out, they can still play, and no mark is sent. Signed in, a finished beat sends the score. Assign practice only after that student is signed in on the Chromebook.

The list stays on this Chromebook. Download the class file and open it on the student's Chromebook. When they type the same alias, the practice line appears. Start switches to that instrument. Done marks it on that Chromebook.

Open Band. The student picks Flute, Clarinet, Alto sax, Trumpet, Trombone, or Percussion. The five buttons are the first notes in a beginning book. Every wind instrument is sounding the same concert pitches: B-flat, C, D, E-flat, F. The letter on the button is the letter that student reads.

Rehearsal: sit tall, horn down while you talk, press Warm-up, then go back to the eight beats. Fingerings are a starter set. The method book wins if a fingering differs.

An aide points at the letter. The student plays the horn if it is out, or the button if it is not. Do not take the instrument. Sound can stay off. The word on the page is the proof.

One screen for grades 5–8. Eight tabs: Songs, Tap, Remix, Mix, Piano, Score, Band, Viz. The song stays in the player at the bottom. Mix opens loudness, swing, and patterns. Band shows the instrument list and the first five notes.

Students tap the big pads with a finger. Kick, Snare, Hat, Clap, and the notes C D E G A play at once, even before Record. Record counts 1 2 3 4, then the taps stick on the beat they see. Your turn plays the song once, then their taps write the next time through. Mute still shows the word and the picture. The staff updates when they tap a note.

The menu has ten ready-made effects: Plain, Soft, Bright, Echo, Room, Hall, Robot, Radio, Space, and Deep. The synth sliders are the wave, brightness, length, echo, and wobble. Picking an effect plays one note so they can hear it. The pads use that sound. The mic is still optional.

The menu holds tempo, the title, and the picture style. The title is four menus. Students do not type it.

A kick on beat 1 is the pulse. Higher on the staff is a higher note. Tempo is speed. It does not change the count.
